About Me
I am passionate about the benefits psychotherapy may offer us in working towards our personal goals, be it change, fulfilment, peace or healing, the list could go on as it is unique to us. I believe that when we can know ourselves at greater depth with more self-acceptance and self-trust; we can start to harness our personal power in our life, choose our own path and find our own unique ways around whatever we may face, accepting more what is in our power to change and what is not.
I completed my formal and rigorous Psychotherapy training at the Sherwood Institute, commencing my clinical work in 2012, working as a volunteer counsellor for Women’s centres supporting some of the most vulnerable clients. Prior to this I had almost 20 years of immersion in the field of psychology and psychotherapy, with long breaks and interruptions due to chronic health conditions. This was via a combination of studies, rigorous self-development, research and personal therapy, and before commencing my formal professional training in 2010. I was originally drawn to this field to make sense of, heal and develop from my own adverse life experiences and traumas and I persistently worked my way through the different approaches to psychology and psychotherapy in this endeavour.
This journey incorporated many approaches including psychodynamic, object relations, attachment and developmental, creative art and expressive therapies, experiential, integrative, Gestalt, CBT , transactional analysis, person-centred approach, mindfulness, and to the very important trauma informed mind and body approaches supported with the more recent and continually evolving neuroscience research, which helps us understand more the connection between our mind, brain and body.
Both personally and professionally, I have witnessed the human need for and seeking of connection to self and others and also the opposite disconnection and isolation that may occur. The therapeutic relationship can be a healing relationship to a greater and healthier authentic relationship with self.
I am an advocate of life-long learning and self-development and am very committed to the ongoing personal and professional development that’s necessary to support best ethical practice, and in creating an emotionally safe (in addition to physically safe) therapeutic relationship.
